Harp

A group of Iranian musicians led by Abdolali Baqerinejad is slated to hold a concert using replicas of various ancient Persian harps. 

The group will introduce and play Sassanid and Elamite harps as well as a 13th-century harp, Fars News Agency reported. 

The concert will also provide participants with basic information on the history of the Persian ‘Chang’, a musical instrument similar to the harp.

Baqerinejad has made the instruments, using ancient pictures and manuscripts about the design of Chang. 

One of the harps designed by Baqerinejad has been made based on a 6,000-year-old instrument, believed by some experts to be the world’s first string instrument. 

Chang was a popular instrument in ancient Persia and a recurring theme in many of the country’s miniatures and manuscripts. 

The concert will be held from March 11 to 13, 2009 in the Iranian city of Karaj near the capital of Tehran.

The Hangout Festival has been re-dubbed the Concert for the Coast, and expanded to include New Orleans as well as an original Gulf Shores, Alabama, location. As the Gulf Oil disaster rages on, without relief in sight, musicians with Reverb and other organizations are trying to provide some proactive relief for shorelines and wetlands that are sure to be damaged as the oil continues to spew out and drift in.
The Concert for the Coast, May 14-16, will now donate all profits to regional coastal cleanup and preservation, according to a dispatch from Adam Gardner, frontman for Guster and a founder of Reverb. The Gulf Shores concert will go on for two days as originally planned, with the addition of a one-day concert in downtown New Orleans on May 16.
New Orleans' Jazz pioneers Preservation Hall Jazz Band will be on hand at both events.The NOLA stage also will include Lenny Kravitz and Ani DiFranco. The Gulf Shores stage will feature scores of green musicians (their credentials, not their experience) including Ben Harper, The Roots, Michael Franti, Brett Dennen and Guster. The bill reads like a whos-who of Planet Green Instrumental, in other words.
Organizers say the stages in Alabama are currently being constructed upon pristine beach, but the oil slick in the Gulf threatens to endanger the wildlife habitats and livelihoods of those that live in the region.
Those putting on the festival also are signing up clean-up volunteers and working to raise public awareness and funds with the folks from HeadCount, a national nonpartisan group that specializes in voter registration.
Concert-goers will be encouraged to visit the HeadCount booth in Gulf Shores to write their local senators and congressmen and bring donations and supplies for Gulf Coast relief.
Hopefully this is one of the first in a long line of Haiti-like concerts and musical efforts to benefit the coast, which is sure to need the support in days, months and years to come.

Jay-Z and the Occult Connections

Jay-Z takes aim at all those who have questioned his spirituality on the new Rick Ross song "Free Mason". At the top of the year, while on New York radio, Jay dismissed rumors that he was a member of the illuminati, worshiped the devil and had Satanic images in the video for "On to the Next One".

"I was a roadie on the Blueprint 3 tour for a few dates," Ross said in May of how the song came about. "It started off in St. Louis. I was just messing with everybody, kicking it with everybody, letting Jay hear my ideas and concepts. When you get the deluxe version of this album, we documented when I played the record. I played the track and my first verse," Ross recalled. "I put in the PS3 behind the stage.

"Played it, [Jay] listened to it," he continued. "We played it, backed it up, played it again. Played it, backed it up, played it again. Backed it up, and he spit his verse. It's gonna be magic for people to see Jay do his 'Rain [Man]' when he's rubbing his head, like he pulling his rhymes outta his mind. Just to see somebody come up with a verse that potent in less than two or three minutes ... 'cause it was just a snippet. The beat may have played for a minute and a half and started over," a process Ross says was repeated a few times as Jay composed. "He had his 16, an idea for the chorus. Trey Songz, all of us standing around in awe."

Jay-Z’s latest video called “Run This Town” (featuring Rihanna and Kanye West) contains occult symbolism relating to secret societies. It has been long rumored that Jay-Z is part of some sort of occult order (probably Freemasonry) due to the hints slipped in his songs and his imagery. ”Run This Town” certainly adds fuel to the fire.
